SWORDS FOR SALE

Royal Scots Fusiliers Officers Levee Sword by Hobson & Sons VR

Description: A very rare example of a levee (lightweight) sword for an officer of the Royal Scots Fusiliers.

Made sometime between 1897 and 1901 this sword was made by Hobson & Sons of London retailed by John Jones & Co of Regent street. The blade is of the 1892 pattern and has slight staining overall. It carries the name of the retailer at the ricasso and the royal cipher for Queen Victoria mid-blade. The blade is slightly loose in the scabbard due to the deterioration of the wooden liner.

The hilt is in good order with just some slight loss to the plating on the guard, while the shagreen and wiring is complete and undamaged.

Provenance: None known.
