1854 Pattern Officer's Sword VRI - Straight Bladed

Description: A nice example of a sword made for use by an officer in the Army of India. The blade is in exceptional condition; it retains most of its original polish and is nicely etched. It carries the VRI cipher for Victoria Regina et Imperatrix, as does the guard. The grip is leather, as preferred by serving officers, and is in good condition with the wiring intact. The blade turns a little in the hilt and is loose in the scabbard as the wood lining is missing. The scabbard is lightly tarnished overall. Maker unidentified, though Thurkle may be a candidate.

Provenance: None known.
