SWORDS FOR SALE

Prototype French Cavalry Sword dated 1895

Description: An exceptionally rare example of the sword designed for the French cavalry by Chef de Battalion Dérué. The pattern was not adopted, though the design for the hilt was used on swords used by the Chilean army. The guard is in good condition, though the shagreen to the grip is damaged and the wiring is missing. The blade is tarnished overall, though there is little pitting. There is a single heavy notch to the blades edge. The spine of the blade is engraved near the hilt with the date of manufacture (1895) and there is a stamped makers mark to the guard for Barre of Paris. No scabbard.

Provenance: None known.

Price: Final sale price witheld.
