1912 Pattern Cavalry Officer's Sword - 8th Duke of Leinster

Description: This sword was made in 1930 by Wilkinson. The hilt and guard are in excellent order with few signs of wear. The plated blade is in fair condition; there are two areas of tarnishing on opposite sides of the blade (these may respond to restoration) and is etched to one side with the letter ‘K’ for Kildare. There is a slight bend to the blade of about one CM to the right from true. The dress scabbard is also in good condition as is the leather service scabbard. Sword knot included.

Provenance: Formerly the property of Gerald FitzGerald, Marquis of Kildare at the time that the sword was purchased and later 8th Duke of Leinster. He joined the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards following his graduation from Sandhurst and served with them during WWII.
