SWORDS FOR SALE

1897P Infantry Officer's Sword for Northumberland Fusiliers GRV

Description: A rare and distinctive sword for this famous regiment.

The hilt is in fine condition with no damage to the shagreen or wiring and just some very slight loss to the plating of the guard.

The blade is firm in the hilt with no movement and it is in good un-plated condition with just some slight staining overall. The blade is beautifully etched to one side with the regimental badge, a rose with the motto ‘quo fata vocant’ (wither the fate calls) beneath it and a lion on a crown (as shown on the regimental standard). The blade is also etched with the regiment’s numerous battle honors. The other side of the blade carries the royal cypher for George V.

The ceremonial scabbard is like wise in good condition, though the sword is loose within it which indicates that there is some loss to the wooden liner. There is one screw missing from the scabbard throat and some minor loss to the plating.

The associated sword bag carries the initials ‘RCB’.

Provenance: Pending research.

Price: Final sale price withheld.
