SWORDS FOR SALE

1895 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword by Wilkinson VR

Descrption: This is a nice example of a top quality sword by Wilkinson that must be one of only a few hundreds of this type that were made by this company. The blade is beautifully etched with the VR cypher to both sides as well as a family crest in the form of a griffin and the motto ‘Festina Lente’. It is numbered 24431 for 1881. The silver wiring to the hilt is complete and tight and there is no movement between the blade and the hilt. There is some tarnishing to the blade and much of the plating to the guard has gone, though there is no pitting in either area. The scabbard retains nearly all of its plating and has just one small indentation near the chape.

The blade has been sharpened which shows that its owner saw active service.

This sword is a super collectors piece that should prove to have an interesting provenance.
