SWORDS FOR SALE

1822 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword by Wilkinson dated 1860

Description: A superb example of the 1822 pattern sword by the renowned maker Wilkinson.

The shagreen wiring to the grip is present and undamaged. Unusually the guard retains around 60% of its original gilding and the blade is firm in the hilt. The blade is etched with makers trade marks, the royal cipher for Queen Victoria, the family badge of a rearing stallion and the owners initials WAS.

The scabbard is complete and in excellent order with no knocks or dings to the mounts or breaks to the leather, though there is one slight fold just above the chape.

Provenance: Formerly the property of Lt Col William Alexander Symes. He was commissioned into the 94th Foot 1/6/60, purchased Capt 8/12/69, exchanged to 71st Foot 21/1/74, retired as a Major and granted honorary Lt Col 6/5/82

Price: Final sale price wittheld.
