1822 Pattern Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders Officer's Levee Sword

Description: A very rare example of this pattern of sword which is peculiar to this regiment. This sword is in outstanding condition and comes complete with its service leather and nickel plated ceremonial scabbards. It is a levee weight sword with a width of 18mm at the ricasso. The etching on the blade is in perfect condition and it has no staining, corrosion or pitting. Both scabbards are likewise in near perfect condition with few signs of use. There is some degradation to the plating on the hilt, but otherwise the wiring is complete and the shagreen is undamaged. The blade of this sword is numbered 44391 for 1913.

Provenance: Formerly the property of James William Francis McLachlan. died 21 April 1930 aged 35. Rank at time of death Major (retd). Lived at Rendcomb Manor in Gloucestershire, family graves at Rendcomb Church.
