SWORDS FOR SALE

1821 Pattern Light Cavalry Officers Undress and Levee Swords 10th Royal Hussars by Wilkinson VR

Description: An exceptional pair of swords by Wilkinson with the undress sword numbered 30639 for 1891.

Both swords have very clean blades, near ‘parade’ standard, and each carries royal cipher for Queen Victoria plus the Curzon family crest, while the undress sword is also etched with the badge of the 10th Royal Hussars. The wiring and shagreen to the grips on both swords is complete and in good order with just minimal wear from use.

Both blades are a good fit to their scabbards and the wooden liners appear to be complete in both of them. There are a few dings to each scabbard, though they are otherwise complete and in good order. Original sword knots also supplied.

Provenance: The Wilkinsons register is empty for this sword number, though the crest on the blade indicates that they were made for a member of the Curzon family of Derbyshire. Nathaniel William Curzon commissioned as an ensign into the 10th Hussars in 1891, the year that these swords were made, and it is therefore almost certain that this pair of sword belonged to him. Nathaniel served with the 10th RH until his death at the age of 28 in 1899. Please see his obituary below.
